Methodology
How we gather, organize, and date the events on the Stock Catalysts calendar — and where that process has limits.
Where events come from
Events are gathered from public sources, including:
- Company investor-relations (IR) pages and press releases
- SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) and other regulatory disclosures
- Exchange notices and official regulatory calendars (e.g. FDA action dates)
- Market data providers (Polygon.io, Finnhub, Alpha Vantage)
- Financial news coverage from mainstream outlets
How events are classified
An AI model (OpenAI's GPT-4o family) reads incoming news and assigns each item a category (e.g. earnings, product launch, regulatory, macro) and an "importance" score from 0–100. This score is an organizational tool to help you prioritize what to review first — it is not a prediction of stock price movement and not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold anything.
Some dates are confirmed by the source (e.g. an official earnings-call announcement); others are estimated based on historical patterns until a company confirms the exact date. Estimated dates are labeled as tentative in the app where this distinction is tracked.
Limitations
- Dates can change. Companies and regulators reschedule events; we do our best to catch and update these, but we cannot guarantee every date is current at every moment.
- Data can be delayed, incomplete, or contain errors. News classification is automated and, while reviewed periodically, is not manually verified line-by-line before publication.
- Coverage is not comprehensive. We track a defined set of tickers and event types; not every company or every event is covered.
- Always verify material information (an exact date, a specific dollar figure, a regulatory outcome) against the original source — the company's own IR page or filing — before making any decision based on it.
Reporting an error or requesting a correction
If you spot a wrong date, a miscategorized event, or anything else that looks off, email support@stockcatalysts.ai with the ticker and a link or description of the event. We review and correct reported errors as quickly as we can.
